APPAREL MANUFACTURER AUTOMATES SMALL PARCEL SHIPPING

“We are now moving boxes consistently at a rate of 13 per minute, and our daily capacity has increased from $1M to $3M.”
Joel Feldman, Chief Executive Officer, Byer California

Byer California is a leading fashion clothing manufacturer of juniors, girls, and misses sportswear and dress apparel. Among their customers are JCPenny and the major divisions of Federated Department Stores and The May Department Stores Company. Byer required a high-speed automated parcel handling system to handle fast-growing B2B sales. FloStor installed the high-speed FloShipper™ system in Byer’s San Francisco and Los Angeles facilities.

The FloShipper system directs small-lot parcels through automated box taping and weighing equipment. The system applies shipping labels; parcels are then automatically sorted according to shipping directives. The PC controlled system provides graphical annunciation of alarming, jam, and motor conditions via the HMI. Parcel routing is directed through the host production management system and fulfillment confirmation is forwarded to the billing system. Built-in auditing processes prevent accidental shipment of duplicate parcels.

The fast-track installation took place over a single weekend, with no downtime to shipping operations. With an output of one parcel every five seconds, Byer has maximized efficiencies and increased productivity by 30%.
