GAMING MANUFACTURER STREAMLINES ASSEMBLY
International
Game Technology is the leading manufacturer of Slot Machines in the
world and each is customized for every customer. This project involved
the consolidation of 17
facilities to one 260,000 square foot
manufacturing and warehouse facility. By reengineering their production
process IGT successfully reduced their cycle time by 30%.
All standard components are put on a pallet that are delivered to a
vertical carousel to receive specific and custom components unique to
that order.
At the assembly station, the slot machines are positioned on a lift
table which allows the assembler ergonomic access to different
areas of the cabinet. Up to 200 components are installed.
Once assembly is complete, the units are released to the burn-in
holding queue prior to shipping.
For a comprehensive review of this project as published in Modern
Material Handling, contact
FloStor for a reprint of the complete article. A review of
the system controls appeared in the August 1998 issue of Material Handling
Engineering Magazine.
To accommodate exponential growth in demand for IGT's gaming equipment, FloStor completed nine assembly line
projects for IGT in 2004. Most significant were an add-on line of approximately 100 feet to
the existing assembly line and the integration of a series of Southworth
lifts.
Hytrol E-Z Logic conveyor is utilized for the finalizing area, which is a test area, and includes chain and skate wheel transfers that feed and discharge from the test areas.
The combination of Hytrol conveyor and Southworth lifts allows slot machines to be raised and lowered to facilitate assembly.
The entire project, beginning with the day the quote was requested until it was fully operational, took two months.
